Best Dressed at The Grammy Awards

I adore watching the stars walk the red carpet for all the awards shows and especially love the Grammy’s because the dress code seems to be more fun. My picks for best dressed are listed below.

Gwen Stefani killed it in a black Versace jumpsuit with and fun sheer wave design in the bodice. Giuliana Rancic had an amazing long sleeve black dress by Steve Khalil that had peek a boo sleeves and a deep v front. Ariana Grande rocked Versace’s sexy, low back and silver mesh detailed gown. Taylor Swift funked it up with a high-low hemline gradient aqua blue dress by Elie Saab. These looks stood out to me and were really memorable. I love how fun they all were and well suited to each celebrity’s personality.

Award season is my favorite season here in Los Angeles because the town in buzzing with energy and I get to see the parties popping up all around my neighborhood. I love the shows themselves and hearing all the acceptance speeches, but the fashion is truly my favorite part.

Who Wears the Pants??

Feminine dressing doesn’t always need to be in skirt or dress form. Zuhair Murad’s Spring 2015 collection proves that pants can be just a ladylike as the best dresses.

The intricate beading, tribal prints, sleek cuts, and deep v necklines of the line’s jackets and pants evoke the most luxurious, dreamlike, powerful silhouettes I have seen in a while. I am really drawn to the idea of wearing pants to a red carpet event in lieu of a party dress. Why let the men have all the fun? The beauty of wearing pants is the sitting situation, exiting a car, and cold shoulder problems of wearing a skirt are instantly solved. There is also something so great about the fluid lines and length of a well tailored suit that adds stature and presence to your overall look. The illusion of height is an added bonus as well. The 90’s were filled with boxy suits and over stuffed shoulder pads, but this dress take on the suit, with the right embellishments is a look that is here to stay. The jackets can even be worn over a plain sheath dress or with a tank and jeans for a night out with the girls. The possibilities are endless when working with perfectly fitted items. I have included my two favorite looks of dress versus pants below. You decide what works for you. image

Gorgeous Girls on the Golden Globes Red Carpet

The Golden Globes took place in Beverly Hills tonight at the Beverly HIlton hotel. Living in LA is always fun during award season because you get to see the event planners setting up the venues for the official after parties and feel like you are part of the action, even if you just end up watching at home.

My favorite part of the awards show is the red carpet. I love seeing all the actresses and actors in their gowns and suits. Working in the industry, I also love to see the looks my friends (the glam squad) have created to help the stars work the carpet as the best version of themselves. The trend on the carpet this year seemed to be plunging necklines, white, and metallic silver. Some of my favorite looks were Emma Stone, Kate Beckinsale, Kate Hudson, Allison Williams, Katherine Heigl, Anna Kendrick, Sienna Miller and Jessica Chastain. Emma wore a Lanvin jumpsuit with a crystal encrusted bodice and a large black bow in the back, and Mara Roszak did her hair. Kate Beckinsale wore a plunging Elie Saab dress with oversized dangling earrings that I am obsessed with. Kate Hudson stood out in a white Versace number that featured a deep V neckline with cutout sides with ladder like crystal beading that fit her like a glove. Jessica Chastain rocked metallic Versace dress and oozed sex appeal with her side swept hairstyle. Allison Wiliams wore a red embellished gown by Armani Prive and did anything but blend into the carpet. Katherine Heigl owned the simple silhouette created by Zac Posen in navy blue. Anna Kendrick looked lovely in her Monique Lhuillier dress with red beading, reminding me of a fairytale princess, which was fitting since she starred in “Into the Woods,” Sienna Miller stayed true to her bohemian chic signature look in her Miu Miu gown with a plunging neckline, sheer embellished back and beaded trim. These stars for me were the best dressed and true to the trend of the red carpet.

I can’t wait to watch E! News to see who made their list and find out if I am on point with the experts. I also have to give a shout out to Kevin Spacey for his win for “House of Cards” because I am newly obsessed with the show. Back to reality for all of hollywood tomorrow, but only for a short time because the Oscars are around the corner and there are many other awards shows in between.

Pants at the People’s Choice Awards

Tonight was the People’s Choice Awards here in Los Angeles and a popular trend on the red carpet was pants.

The fashion statement appeared on celebrities wearing jumpsuits and full suitings. The women proved that men don’t always have to wear the pants. They rocked this look in an array of colors and styles. Comfort had to be part of the selection process when meeting with stylists to narrow down the options to finally choose the pant styles. Pockets are also helpful for stashing lipgloss for touch ups as well as Kings Hawaiian rolls as spoofed on the show. It was a play on skit on how no food or beverage was allowed in the room and how the celebrities were secretly stashing contraband food into the show. Having attended several of these shows, I can attest, you do get quite hungry and no food is served. I get it, boo hoo for princess problems, but still.

Back to the pantsuits…I really enjoyed seeing these few women stun on the red carpet in this empowering look and look forward to what the rest of award season has to offer.

Blake’s Baby Bump

Blake Lively is so beautiful and her pregnancy bump is only adding to her radiance. I adore her and loved her on Gossip Girl and Savages.

She is expecting her first child with husband, Ryan Reynolds and her pregnancy style is on point. Her style has never faltered on the red carpet and this plunging Gucci look she rocked at the Angel Ball in New York has been my favorite look so far. She manages to look effortlessly glamorous and shows off her growing baby bump all at the same time. She does it all with such grace and looks as comfortable as if she were wearing sweats.

Blake is a beautiful mom to be and I can’t wait to see what she wears next.

BCBG Max Azria Celebrates 25 Years

I was lucky enough to experience the perfectly curated retrospective exhibit of BCBG Max Azria’s past collections. It features red carpet looks donned by Hollywood’s elite and a look back at the collections to view the evolution of the brands from year to year.

Upon entering the exhibit, I was greeted with lovely dresses and a timeline depicting the progression of the brand. Then there was a table with mannequins that showed the design progress of one look beginning with the inspiration of a men’s shirt to the transformation into a dress. There was a wall full of iPads showcasing the runway shows, with special recognition of the photographers such as Mario Testino and Patrick Demarchelier in conjunction with the models they photographed. The next area displayed favorite dresses over the years and guided me into the red carpet portion, which highlighted the dresses worn by celebrities for award shows. One notable dress was the green flowy dress worn by Angelina Jolie.

It was on to the Herve Leger display which featured the signature bandage dresses. Some were embellished with fringe and jewels, while others were encased by leather harness belts.  The BCBGeneration room was fun, bright, and youthful and even had a special selfie nook.  The exhibit ended in a room with silver cutout flowers lining the ceiling and the walls plastered with photos from guests of events that have used the hashtag #bcbgmoments in their social media posts. The wall also enclosed several televisions that play the runway shows on a loop and a quote etched on the wall stating, “What is important in a DRESS is the WOMAN who is wearing it.” The exit of the exhibit lead to the glass doors of the Runway Archive Pop-Up shop where visitors can get deeply discounted items from past collections.

Their design philosophy is “We design for a dynamic woman with a discriminating sense of style. It begins with a vision inspired by the evolving landscape of art and culture. That vision translates into colors, prints, silhouettes and finishes. With steadfast attention to fabrication, construction and fit, each collection comes together as a complete narative that inspires the wearer.”  The designs are meant to inspire “Living the Bon Chic Life.”

I have included pictures below that walk you through the exhibit and also feature my favorite parts of the retrosective. I have always loved these brands and it was such a treat to have a personal tour and see these dresses up close and out of the fashion vault. Many thanks to the BCBG team! You are all dolls.

Best H & M Looks At The 2014 Emmys – How To Interview From Sarah Hyland’s Pro Allan Avendano

Working in the beauty industry, I look forward to seeing how the best beauty pros in the business help Tinseltown’s elite transform into the most glamorous versions of themselves for an award show. I was lucky enough to snag an interview with Celebrity Makeup Artist, Allan Avendano, who created Sarah Hyland’s Emmy look.

My favorite hair and makeup looks of the night are as follow:

Sarah Hyland-  Makeup Artist Allan Avendano, special “How To” below

Kristen Wiig- Textured bob

Claire Danes- Hairstylist Peter Butler

Michelle Dockery- Hairstylist Mara Roszak using an Ana Khouri barrette

“How To” for Sarah Hyland’s look with her amazing Makeup Artist, Allan Avendano

We kept her entire look soft and pretty and definitely took inspiration from portraits of Audrey Hepburn and other old Hollywood film stars.

– I prepped Sarah’s skin with Orlane Paris Super Moisturizing Light Cream and Absolute Skin Recovery Care Eye Contour.  The perfect base for any makeup!

– I applied DiorSkin Star Foundation and concealer for a lightweight, flawless and luminous finish!

– To accentuate her cheekbones and to add dimension to her face, I used DiorNude Tan Powder in Moka and shaded the sides of her face in the shape of a “3” from her temples to under her cheekbones and into her jawline.

– To make her cheeks pop, I gave her a good dose of MAC Powder Blush in Style on the apples of her cheeks and into her temple.

– For highlights, I took Dior Glow Maximizer, warmed it up with my fingers and strategically placed in on her orbital bone (right at the peak of her cheekbones, on the bridge of her nose and on her cupid’s bow.  Then i lightly dusted MAC Mineralize Powder in Soft and Gentle to make it pop.

– To tone down shine in the t-zone, I used DiorSkin Loose Powder.

– I started with applying MAC Pro-Longwear Paint Pot in Layin’ Low as a base for Sarah’s eyeshadows.  It helps with keeping shadows on, makes them more opaque and prevents it from creasing.

– Then I applied MAC Naked Pigment in the center of the eyes and into the inner corners.

– For the outer corners, I dipped my crease brush into 3 MAC Eyeshadow shades to create a custom crease color: Swiss Chocolate, Smut and Bronze.  I created a V shape on the outer corners and diffused it in the crease.  Then I applied the Bronze eyeshadow from the corner towards the center and blended it into the Naked pigment.

– Her brows were filled in impeccably with DiorShow Brow Styler in Universal Brown.

– Right under her brow bone I used MAC Mineralized Powder in Soft and Gentle to create a very subtle sheen.

– For her upper lashes, we applied a coat of DiorShow Maximizer Lash Plumping Serum and then followed it up with 4 coats of Dior Addict IT-Lash in IT-Black to create bold full lashes (because we chose not to use any eyeliner).

– For her bottom lashes, we used DiorShow New Look mascara in Black.  The thin brush really comes in handy for the bottom lashes.

– Her lips were painted in with Dior Contour Lip Liner in Jungle Brown and topped off with Rouge Dior Lipstick in Trench!

– Her beautiful skin tone was accentuated with Votre Vu’s Silk Stockings Lotion.  It moisturized and made her glow!

2014 Emmy Awards- Red Carpet Arrivals

I love watching the red carpet arrivals for the award shows. The glitz and glam that goes into producing that final look before stepping out of the limo is something I am all too familar with working as a beauty agent. All the preparation is worth it for the moment the celebrity steps out of the limo and onto the red carpet to ooohhs and ahhhhs at their arrival. Fingers crossed, they make the best dressed and look of the week lists, and even better go home a winner of an award! I live for these moments and hope to attend one year.

I have put together a list of my favorite looks this year and am excited for the winners to be revealed.
