Bloom That

I recently discovered the flower delivery service, Bloom That. It is a local company based in San Francisco and now offered delivery here in Los Angeles.

Their concept is beautiful, affordable flowers packaged in burlap with bright orange and white striped bows or in a vase, all delivered in 90 mins! In LA that is quite a feat. I love the idea and the fact that they are making kind gestures and romance accessible to everyone. The prices range from $25-60 and that includes delivery! I mean seriously?! Well done friends at Bloom That, well done.

The gifts start with a single succulent in a wooden box, tea with a treat and bud vase, a bouquet of gorgeous blooms, a larger succulent arrangement, to a small arrangement in a vase. There is something for everyone’s tastes and is sure to brighten anyone’s day. I will certainly be taking advantage of this service and you should too.

I urge you to log onto and start sending today!

Vintage Levi’s and Vogue

Tonight I attended the Levi’s x Vogue event at the Levi’s Showroom in LA. Levi’s was showcasing their special limited edition Vintage 501CT jeans.

Upon arrival, there were stylists at the ready to help fit you with the perfect broken in pair of denim. These are cool kid jeans for sure and definitely got me out of my comfort zone. The pair the stylist helped me choose are worn in and a looser, boyfriend style. I don’t own any loose jeans, but my friends always look so cute in them and let me tell you, they are beyond comfortable. I envision wearing them with a white t-shirt, a fun high heel, and maybe a leather jacket or cozy sweater. They would also look amazing paired with converse for a more casual look.

A cool flower company, Bloom That, based in San Francisco presented everyone with burlap covered colorful arrangements tied with a fun bow to take home. The blooms were such a sweet touch at the end of the night. Pretty little things and edgy fashion items are always a good mix.

Let’s Get Naked…With Our Cakes That Is

I recently came across a trend in cakes, Naked Cakes. These are beautiful layered cakes that have frosting in between the layers and very little to no frosting covering the entire cake. They are usually decorated with lovely fresh flowers and fruits and void of elaborate fondant coverings and designs.

This style of cakes has been very popular for weddings and showers lately and I must say, they are breathtaking ways to showcase a sweet confection. The minimalist, but extraordinary design of the cakes draw the focus to the colors used, and to the raw edges of where the cake meets the barely frosted layers. Many of the cakes also have a dusting of powdered sugar around the exterior of the cake, or a pretty caramel or fruit drizzle. I love the simplistic nature of these desserts and the endless possibilities for decorations. Some feel these cakes look unfinished, but I think the imperfections are the appeal of this cake. They show more personality and whimsy, which is perfect in my opinion.

I have included several of my favorite naked cakes below. Please enjoy and try to recreate them at home.

The Los Angeles Flower Market

The Los Angeles Flower Market is located downtown and supplies all the flowers for the florists in town. I have always wanted to experience this unique market and finally made it down the other morning.

Upon entry you will have to pay a $2 admission fee and receive a badge that allows you to purchase anything in the market. The lovely scent of the flowers heavily perfumes the air and is so enticing as you walk around the warehouse. The vibrant colors and all the different varieties of flowers is astonishing. There are so many roses, hydrangeas, orchids, dahlias, and much more ready for arranging. The vendors also sell pre made arrangements ready to deliver. There are several stands that also sell vases and crystals so you can get straight to work on your masterpiece as soon as you get home. I walked around the entire warehouse first to take it all in and scout out which ones I wanted to take home.

I ended up choosing yellow roses, eucalyptus, baby’s breath, pink edged yellow roses, and purple dahlias. I also bought several vases including some very cool gold ones. I love when people give me flowers, so I was super excited to get home with all my goodies and start arranging. I made an arrangement for my friend Lindsay’s birthday, for my sister just because, for my friend Yoon Jin’s promotion, and a few small ones for my apartment. I had a lot of fun delivering these flowers to everyone and making them happy.

The flowers at the market are very affordable and the roses last a long time. The dahlias died the next day, so I would not purchase them again, although they were pretty. The hours of the market for the public are Monday and Wednesday 8am-12noon, Tuesday and Thursday 6am-11am, Friday 8am-2pm, and Saturday 6am-2pm.

The Los Angeles Flower Market is located at 745 Wall St between 7th and 8th. There is meter parking on the street and a few pay lots close by.

Dating Diary

Do you remember that old principal, Keep It Simple Stupid? Well I remember and I am not calling men stupid, just advocating that sometimes keeping it simple impresses women the most.

I have had some of the best dates when men have kept the planning simple, thoughtfully geared toward what I like, and just relaxed. Sometimes we stress ourselves out about how to make things so grand and perfect, that we lose the intent and result we wanted to achieve.

The goal should be to make your date happy and to get a smile or happy tears in return. I know the goals get a little more sexual these days, but let’s revert to what dating used to be. The chivalrous, simple way of dating was so much less confusing.

Flowers always appreciated whether hand delivered or sent to the office or home. A fun, inexpensive ice cream date or glass of wine on a beautiful patio, watching the sunset can impress just as much as being whisked away on a fancy date. I appreciate both, but the dates with pure intent are always the ones that are well remembered.

Look at Lady and The Tramp. The Tramp couldn’t afford to take Lady anywhere fancy, but made her so happy by giving her the last meatball and putting her first.

Set the bar high gentleman and plan a great simple date guaranteed to win us over.

Guys That Get It

The best way to win my heart is through chivalry and being your true, authentic self. Growing up I had great examples of traditional dating roles in my father and my grandfather. The behaviors by men that were instilled in me from a young age were as follow.

A man that likes you opens the door, picks up the check, buys you flowers, showers you with affection, and verbalizes that you are special to him. There is no question where you stand and confidence in the relationship isn’t an issue. For example, my father sometimes brought flowers home for my mom on a random day and always left chocolates on our pillows on Valentine’s Day. I am a very open person and share my dating stories with anyone who will listen, but one of my favorite parts of my relationship with my late grandfather was to update him on my dating life.

My favorite dating conversation with him went like this. “Grandpa, I went out on a date with this guy and we met at this Italian restaurant.” He stopped me right there and said, “Wait, are you telling me this young man didn’t pick you up?” I replied, “Yes grandpa, sometimes guys don’t pick you up these days, you just meet at a location.” He was astonished and asked, “Well did he even spring for your gas?” I couldn’t stop laughing. The thought of my date handing me gas money had me in stitches.

While it was a funny conversation, the point my grandpa was trying to make was that the man is the protector and provider. I know times have changed and am totally for women conquering the workplace but there is just something innate in me that craves the three P’s. Provide, Profess, Protect. You don’t need to be private jet wealthy or buy me Chanel bags (in fantasy land that would be nice), but you do need to make sure there is a roof over my head, i never go hungry, and the romance never falters.

Dating is a two way street and I will do my part, but I am just sharing why “Guys that get it” will always be one step ahead in getting the girl. Chivalry is not dead and goes a long way. So on the way home tonight, buy some flowers or chocolates from the corner store, give your sweetheart a hug and a kiss upon walking in the door and tell her it is “just because.”
