Unicorn Hot Chocolate

Ever since I was a little girl I have always loved everything pretty, pink, and magical. So it was only natural that after reading about a little cafe in Anaheim that served Unicorn Hot Chocolate, I try it for myself.

I had just celebrated my birthday and I celebrate the entire week, so I decided to end the week of festivities by driving from LA to Anaheim and try the drink that has taken Instagram by storm. I waited 2 hours in line at the Creme & Sugar cafe and purchased the secret menu items, the Unicorn Hot Chocolate, Unicorn Bark, and Unicorn Cake. I was so excited when I finally had them in my hot little hands because the colors were so vibrant and fun. The pink colored white hot chocolate was piled high with whipped cream, sprinkles, and multicolored marshmallows. The beautiful bark was covered with Lucky Charms, rainbows, sprinkles, and marshmallows, and the pretty pastel layered cake looked so fluffy and moist.

Now this is the hard part…..

I was severely disappointed. The flavor of the white hot chocolate was barely there and the cake was flavorless as well. The only redeeming item was the bark as it was super sweet and the cereal added a nice texture with each bite. That being said, I would not drive an hour and wait another two to partake in these secret menu items again for myself. I would however, bring my friends children to indulge in these treats as I think they would absolutely go bonkers over them and truly appreciate the whimsical nature of all three items. I was completely impressed with the presentation and the anticipation of trying the treats conjured up magical feelings and excitement that brought me back to my childhood, so for that I am delighted.

Cozy Cardigan

The weather in LA is still a bit gloomy from all the rain this week. It is a welcome departure from the sunshiny bliss, but it is chilly. Well…chilly by LA standards. Sorry to all of you that live in states that are in full on winter wonderland, snow covered street torture, err, I mean weather.

I went shopping with my friend, Randi, in Beverly Hills the other day and we stumbled into one of our favorite stores, Planet Blue. The finds there are always on point and have a bohemian flair to them. I found this Denver cardigan by Eternal Sunshine Creations that I fell in love with. The only problem is there was only one left and it was a size M/L. I tried to make it work and to be honest it looked great a little big and drapey, but it was just not the best fit. I will continue to search for it in the correct size and by all means encourage all of you to compete to snap up the only remaining sweater at the Beverly Hills store and brag to everyone that will listen that you scored the last one. For now I will daydream about owning it and settle for the two posted pictures for you to fall in love with too.

Coolhaus

I finally got to go to the ice cream shoppe, Coolhaus! I have been dying to try the creative flavors and have been unable to catch the truck, so I made my way to the Culver City brick and mortar store.

The co-founders of Coolhaus, Natasha Case and Freya Estreller, began by baking cookies and ice cream, and combining them into “cool houses” in 2008. Their unique approach to the creamy sweet treat is to combine sweet and savory to develop amazing flavors. They also value sourcing locally when possible and using the best organic ingredients.

The store is small, but cute. There is a neon pink sign in the shape of their iconic ice cream sandwhich logo at the front of the store. There is a handwritten list with the flavors of the day and a list inside with what you can order. You can get scoops of ice cream, an ice cream sandwich, ice cream floats, and milkshakes.

My favorite flavor was the Fig, Balsamic & Marscapone. It was creamy, sweet and savory all in one. DELISH!

The combinations are endless, so have fun mixing and matching to your little heart’s content.

You can get your Coolhaus fix at one of the food trucks or at the store in Culver City.

Check Twitter for the truck’s whereabouts @coolhausLA

The store is located at 8588 Washington Blvd, Culver City, CA 90232 310-424-5559
