Dreamcatchers Do Come True

I have a little FOMO over not joining my friends in Palm Springs this weekend, but mostly because I missed the best bohemian fashion show around, also known as Coachella.

To satiate my bohemian cravings, I searched the web and found the most beautiful dreamcatchers. These wonderfully handcrafted works of art are made by Electric Love NYC by Hitomi Matarese and Charlie Walker. They feature natural, hand painted feathers, strips of leather, and stones attached to gorgeous wood. The colors range from all white to pops of neon and flecks of gold. The website is full of so many inspirational pieces. I could, and did, peruse the different offerings all night. They also make chandeliers and chimes among other things.

Lush Pink Dragonfruit Scent

I am a sucker for coupons and samples. All my friends think I’m insane, but I LOVE a good deal! So when Bath and Body Works sent me a coupon for a complimentary travel size signature scent and 20 percent off my purchase, I darted to the store.

I sniffed all the scents and chose Lush Pink Dragonfruit from the new spring line. I used it tonight during my ritual evening shower and was captured by the scent. It is delicately fruity and transported me to my last vacation. I am obsessed!! And of course it is a pretty pink color, my favorite.

The scent is contains notes of Dragonfruit, wild water lilies, pomegranate caipirinha, jungle plum, and passion fruit nectar. It is a lovely combination. The extra bonus is the shower gel has Shea butter, vitamin E and aloe so your skin is not only clean but well moisturized.

The shower gel retails for $12.50 and can be purchased at Bath and Body works.

Bloom That

I recently discovered the flower delivery service, Bloom That. It is a local company based in San Francisco and now offered delivery here in Los Angeles.

Their concept is beautiful, affordable flowers packaged in burlap with bright orange and white striped bows or in a vase, all delivered in 90 mins! In LA that is quite a feat. I love the idea and the fact that they are making kind gestures and romance accessible to everyone. The prices range from $25-60 and that includes delivery! I mean seriously?! Well done friends at Bloom That, well done.

The gifts start with a single succulent in a wooden box, tea with a treat and bud vase, a bouquet of gorgeous blooms, a larger succulent arrangement, to a small arrangement in a vase. There is something for everyone’s tastes and is sure to brighten anyone’s day. I will certainly be taking advantage of this service and you should too.

I urge you to log onto http://www.bloomthat.com and start sending today!

Eye Base Primer

I use a primer before applying my eyeshadow everyday. Primers smooth, conceal, and create a velvety base, so anything you apply on top will immediately look better.

I usually use Smashbox photo finish lid primer, MAC paint pots, or concealer to prep my eye lids for eyeshadow. Using a primer helps reduce the incidence of eyeshadow getting trapped in the crease of your eye lid and helps the shadow stay on for a longer period of time. A primer also evens out the color of the lid, ensuring a uniform application of color. You can even wear the primer alone if you have chosen one with shimmer, for a bare and beautiful day look.

My favorite MAC paint pot is the color Bare Study, which is a pretty beige color with flecks of gold shimmer. It compliments any skin tone and goes with any color you apply on top. Worn alone, it leaves just a hint of sparkle and shine on the lid, for that fresh faced look. No matter which color you choose, you will love the way it looks on the eye and how much time is saves you from reapplying your shadow throughout the day.

Magical Hair for Maison Martin Margiela Spring 2015

John Galliano makes his runway comeback debut by designing for fashion house Maison Martin Margiela’s Spring 2015 London show. I have met Mr.Galliano back when I used to manage the Andy Lecompte salon.

The designer has tried to make amends since his derailing at Dior and this show certainly not only opened the door to showcase his creativity, it down right broke the door down. The real standout for me was the hairstyling by Eugene Souleiman. Playful, gold glitter encrusted 20’s inspired waves ruled the runway. The way the gold flecks accented the hair, cementing it into place, made the models look like pure magical creatures walking down the runway. Thoughts of mystical lands ran through my mind when seeing the images and made me want to run straight to colorist, Danny Moon, who developed a glitter gel called Major Moon Shine. I once let Danny paint strands of my hair with gold glitter during the testing phases of his product, and felt like an excited 5 year old who had found a unicorn or a living My Little Pony. I have never wanted this grown up version of fairy dust lacquered in my hair more. For now, I will lust over the photos of the models who walked for Galliano and gaze at Eugene’s skilled hand at bending the hair into those architectural waves creating the avant garde style. I loved everything about it and now just need an excuse to rock this look in real life.

Friendsgiving

Thanksgiving is a time for reflection on the things and people you are thankful for. I am so grateful for my family and friends. This year my friends Michelle and Jonathan hosted Thanksgiving and it was so much fun.

I baked strawberry apple pie, pecan bars, and pumpkin bites cut out in fall leaf shapes, topped with cream cheese frosting. There was tons of food with all the fixings and we ate until our tummies could handle no more, and then some. I am writing about this dinner, not just because it is a holiday and relevant, but because I find that beauty can be found in so many things. There is something so beautiful about my friendships whether they are new or old. Everyone in the group is so accepting and offers something different. I loved hearing everyone’s stories and laughed so hard my sides hurt.

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving and get some awesome shopping deals tomorrow.

Olay Quench Lotion

I discovered Olay Quench body lotion several years ago and have turned so many friends onto it. It is a drug store diamond in the rough, and not just because it has shimmer.

The lotion is light in texture with a fresh scent and absorbs quickly into the skin. The ingredients include vitamin E and keep my skin feeling soft and looking radiant. I always am complimented on how soft my skin feels. I apply it after a shower to ensure optimal moisture absorption. The lotion also contains shimmer, which offers light reflecting, skin perfecting qualities. There are other formulations of Olay Quench, but I like this one the best. It is inexpensive and I purchase it and Target.

Lovely Lavender

Shortly after my friend Melissa got engaged, we went to a few bridal shops so she could try on dresses. One of the stores smelled so incredible. The secret to the intoxicating scent was the slow burn of an Archipelago Lavande candle.

We wanted to purchase it, but they were sold out, so we left empty handed. I had forgotten about that candle until someone recently asked me if I could find a candle that would make their place smell amazing and preferably Lavender scented. I immediately thought of the lovely lavender candle from the bridal shop and luckily, they had them back in stock. It was as comforting and beautifully scented as I remembered. The candle is comprised of a well balanced mix of lavender and thyme and is a soy based wax, which burns cleaner than other wax.

The Archipelago candle can be purchased at http://www.candledelirum.com for $30.

Trust me, this candle will be your new obsession and go to house warming gift. Enjoy the gentle flicker of the flame and the lingering scent for a cozy night in on the couch watching your favorite shows.

Makeup Crush Monday

I know MCM stands for Man Crush Monday, but I couldn’t resist a post about makeup today. I came across this photo by Jamie Nelson, with makeup by Lottie Stannard and nails by Julie K and I was instantly smitten.

I love everything about the image, how edgy and raw the makeup is, all while still exuding fashion forward thinking. The pop of neon colors against the “dirty” looking face and hands is just so inventive and eye catching. The nails are so delicately splattered with color and the lips so vibrant. This is art to me. I had to share this image with all of you and hope it brightens your day as it did mine. So here is to my Makeup Crush Monday and enjoy! image

The Los Angeles Flower Market

The Los Angeles Flower Market is located downtown and supplies all the flowers for the florists in town. I have always wanted to experience this unique market and finally made it down the other morning.

Upon entry you will have to pay a $2 admission fee and receive a badge that allows you to purchase anything in the market. The lovely scent of the flowers heavily perfumes the air and is so enticing as you walk around the warehouse. The vibrant colors and all the different varieties of flowers is astonishing. There are so many roses, hydrangeas, orchids, dahlias, and much more ready for arranging. The vendors also sell pre made arrangements ready to deliver. There are several stands that also sell vases and crystals so you can get straight to work on your masterpiece as soon as you get home. I walked around the entire warehouse first to take it all in and scout out which ones I wanted to take home.

I ended up choosing yellow roses, eucalyptus, baby’s breath, pink edged yellow roses, and purple dahlias. I also bought several vases including some very cool gold ones. I love when people give me flowers, so I was super excited to get home with all my goodies and start arranging. I made an arrangement for my friend Lindsay’s birthday, for my sister just because, for my friend Yoon Jin’s promotion, and a few small ones for my apartment. I had a lot of fun delivering these flowers to everyone and making them happy.

The flowers at the market are very affordable and the roses last a long time. The dahlias died the next day, so I would not purchase them again, although they were pretty. The hours of the market for the public are Monday and Wednesday 8am-12noon, Tuesday and Thursday 6am-11am, Friday 8am-2pm, and Saturday 6am-2pm.

The Los Angeles Flower Market is located at 745 Wall St between 7th and 8th. There is meter parking on the street and a few pay lots close by.
