The Perfect Black Pant

It has been ages since I have purchased a black dress pant. I usually live in jeans, dresses, and lululemon, but recently had to search for a nice pair of dress pants. The feat was much harder than expected, but I did find the most amazing pair.

I went to the Beverly Center in a cheerful mood and bounced into store after store. I wanted to spend the least amount possible for the cutest, updated pant. I went to Express, Banana Republic, H&M, Ann Taylor, Club Monaco and was really disappointed in the fit of every pair. I never have trouble finding jeans or pants, so I found myself in uncharted territory. My sunny outlook on shopping was fasting diminishing with every pair I tried on. The fits were baggy, not tailored, and honestly the seams in the crotch area were super uncomfortable. Like, who honestly wants the seam to go up your crotch? I was beginning to think my chic, affordable pants were unattainable. Then I went into Bloomingdale’s and found several pairs that were comfortable and so lovely. Theory had a pair that were great, but I ended up purchasing a pair by Vince. The Strapping Trouser by Vince is literally the perfect pant. It hits around the ankle so you can easily pair it with many different shoes, is slim fitting, and super comfortable as it is made in a year round wool fabric. The detailing of a monochromatic stripe down the side gives the pant a little extra style. I know the pants are more than I had wanted to spend at $265, but I justified it because I would rather have the perfect fit and quality that is made to last, rather than several inexpensive pairs that will leave me disappointed.

I am so excited to style these pants in different ways and to finally have a classic pair of dress pants. You can purchase these pants at http://www.vince.com  www.bloomingdales.com  www.nordstrom.com

Hot Hair and Makeup in Harper’s Bazaar Singapore

The February issue of Harper’s Bazaar Singapore literally stopped me in my tracks. Model Heather Marks graces the cover in a pretty pink leather dress holding a cat with the caption “What’s new pussycat?”

The flirty throwback tone of the cover made me want to look inside and see more of the hair and makeup paired with other amazing outfits. The makeup was done by makeup master, Allan Avendano, who also does Sarah Hyland. The black cat eye was perfection with the retro-modern look that famed hairstylist, Peter Savic, who does Sharon Stone’s hair, created. The sleek part in the front was the perfect pairing for the teased hair at the crown and the incredible effortless texture he created. I literally have been lusting after this look since I laid eyes on it and can’t wait to recreate it. Ok….I am going to cheat and call one of my celebrity hairstylist friends to create the look for me. Lucky me, and I am so excited. Photographer Yu Tsai captured these beautiful images and I keep looking at them over and over again. I have included the images below so you can fall in love with them too.

Eye Base Primer

I use a primer before applying my eyeshadow everyday. Primers smooth, conceal, and create a velvety base, so anything you apply on top will immediately look better.

I usually use Smashbox photo finish lid primer, MAC paint pots, or concealer to prep my eye lids for eyeshadow. Using a primer helps reduce the incidence of eyeshadow getting trapped in the crease of your eye lid and helps the shadow stay on for a longer period of time. A primer also evens out the color of the lid, ensuring a uniform application of color. You can even wear the primer alone if you have chosen one with shimmer, for a bare and beautiful day look.

My favorite MAC paint pot is the color Bare Study, which is a pretty beige color with flecks of gold shimmer. It compliments any skin tone and goes with any color you apply on top. Worn alone, it leaves just a hint of sparkle and shine on the lid, for that fresh faced look. No matter which color you choose, you will love the way it looks on the eye and how much time is saves you from reapplying your shadow throughout the day.

Cha Cha Cha Chia….Pudding

I am always on the hunt for healthy, easy, delicious breakfast options and recently have been obsessed with Chia Pudding. It is super easy to make and has a tapioca-like texture with a slight crunch and is packed with anti-inflammatory omega-3’s.

You will need chia seeds, I buy mine from Trader Joe’s, vanilla, light coconut milk (the kind in a can), and honey or agave if you prefer. In a small bowl, you will mix 1/4 cup chia seeds, 1 cup light coconut milk, 1 tsp vanilla, 1 tsp honey. Simply stir until combined and pour into a mason jar or other air tight container and chill in the refrigerator overnight. In the morning, you will wake up to thick, creamy chia pudding that can be topped with fresh fruit or eaten plain. This fiber rich treat can be eaten for breakfast or a snack and will help you debloat. I love how fool proof this is to make and that it is perfect for people that need something ready to grab and go.

Magical Hair for Maison Martin Margiela Spring 2015

John Galliano makes his runway comeback debut by designing for fashion house Maison Martin Margiela’s Spring 2015 London show. I have met Mr.Galliano back when I used to manage the Andy Lecompte salon.

The designer has tried to make amends since his derailing at Dior and this show certainly not only opened the door to showcase his creativity, it down right broke the door down. The real standout for me was the hairstyling by Eugene Souleiman. Playful, gold glitter encrusted 20’s inspired waves ruled the runway. The way the gold flecks accented the hair, cementing it into place, made the models look like pure magical creatures walking down the runway. Thoughts of mystical lands ran through my mind when seeing the images and made me want to run straight to colorist, Danny Moon, who developed a glitter gel called Major Moon Shine. I once let Danny paint strands of my hair with gold glitter during the testing phases of his product, and felt like an excited 5 year old who had found a unicorn or a living My Little Pony. I have never wanted this grown up version of fairy dust lacquered in my hair more. For now, I will lust over the photos of the models who walked for Galliano and gaze at Eugene’s skilled hand at bending the hair into those architectural waves creating the avant garde style. I loved everything about it and now just need an excuse to rock this look in real life.

Who Wears the Pants??

Feminine dressing doesn’t always need to be in skirt or dress form. Zuhair Murad’s Spring 2015 collection proves that pants can be just a ladylike as the best dresses.

The intricate beading, tribal prints, sleek cuts, and deep v necklines of the line’s jackets and pants evoke the most luxurious, dreamlike, powerful silhouettes I have seen in a while. I am really drawn to the idea of wearing pants to a red carpet event in lieu of a party dress. Why let the men have all the fun? The beauty of wearing pants is the sitting situation, exiting a car, and cold shoulder problems of wearing a skirt are instantly solved. There is also something so great about the fluid lines and length of a well tailored suit that adds stature and presence to your overall look. The illusion of height is an added bonus as well. The 90’s were filled with boxy suits and over stuffed shoulder pads, but this dress take on the suit, with the right embellishments is a look that is here to stay. The jackets can even be worn over a plain sheath dress or with a tank and jeans for a night out with the girls. The possibilities are endless when working with perfectly fitted items. I have included my two favorite looks of dress versus pants below. You decide what works for you. image

Gorgeous Girls on the Golden Globes Red Carpet

The Golden Globes took place in Beverly Hills tonight at the Beverly HIlton hotel. Living in LA is always fun during award season because you get to see the event planners setting up the venues for the official after parties and feel like you are part of the action, even if you just end up watching at home.

My favorite part of the awards show is the red carpet. I love seeing all the actresses and actors in their gowns and suits. Working in the industry, I also love to see the looks my friends (the glam squad) have created to help the stars work the carpet as the best version of themselves. The trend on the carpet this year seemed to be plunging necklines, white, and metallic silver. Some of my favorite looks were Emma Stone, Kate Beckinsale, Kate Hudson, Allison Williams, Katherine Heigl, Anna Kendrick, Sienna Miller and Jessica Chastain. Emma wore a Lanvin jumpsuit with a crystal encrusted bodice and a large black bow in the back, and Mara Roszak did her hair. Kate Beckinsale wore a plunging Elie Saab dress with oversized dangling earrings that I am obsessed with. Kate Hudson stood out in a white Versace number that featured a deep V neckline with cutout sides with ladder like crystal beading that fit her like a glove. Jessica Chastain rocked metallic Versace dress and oozed sex appeal with her side swept hairstyle. Allison Wiliams wore a red embellished gown by Armani Prive and did anything but blend into the carpet. Katherine Heigl owned the simple silhouette created by Zac Posen in navy blue. Anna Kendrick looked lovely in her Monique Lhuillier dress with red beading, reminding me of a fairytale princess, which was fitting since she starred in “Into the Woods,” Sienna Miller stayed true to her bohemian chic signature look in her Miu Miu gown with a plunging neckline, sheer embellished back and beaded trim. These stars for me were the best dressed and true to the trend of the red carpet.

I can’t wait to watch E! News to see who made their list and find out if I am on point with the experts. I also have to give a shout out to Kevin Spacey for his win for “House of Cards” because I am newly obsessed with the show. Back to reality for all of hollywood tomorrow, but only for a short time because the Oscars are around the corner and there are many other awards shows in between.
