Unicorn Bark

I always bring a sweet treat to my girls’ night dinners and try to make it myself. I was inspired to make candy instead of bake…mostly because I have been short on time lately. So I decided to make white chocolate unicorn bark. It was so easy to make and turned out so pretty. I know the bright colors will bring a smile to my friends’ faces.

To make this simple bark, you will need a microwave, a freezer, a toothpick, a rubber spatula, two spoons, glass bowl (or any microwave safe bowl) and two smaller bowls, cookie sheet, parchment paper, white chocolate candy melts (I used Ghiradelli), pastel food coloring (I used Wilton gel food coloring), sprinkles of your choice, and your favorite candies and toppings. I used Lucky Charms cereal, sprinkles, and edible glitter. The total time this treat will take to make is about an hour.

First you will line the cookie sheet with parchment paper. Pour the white chocolate candy melts into the glass bowl (tip: I used two bags of candy melts) and microwave the candy in 30 second increments, taking the bowl out of the microwave to stir until the candy is melted. It took me about 1 minute and 15 seconds…so the last time I just did 15 seconds. Make sure to stir the chocolate together until smooth and glossy. Next you will pour a small amount of the melted chocolate into the two other bowls and color with food coloring. I decided on pink and purple, so I made those colors in the small bowls by dropping a few drops of coloring into each bowl and stirring with a spoon until I got the color I wanted. Now spread the uncolored melted white chocolate on the parchment paper in an even thickness with the spatula. Then take one of the bowls of colored chocolate and use a spoon to drizzle on top of the uncolored white chocolate layer. Repeat this process with the other color of melted white chocolate. You can use as many colors as you want. Take a toothpick and swirl these colors together to make a pretty design.

Now just have fun topping the melted chocolate with the sprinkles, glitter, cereal, candy or whatever you have chosen until you feel you have covered the chocolate enough. Use your hands to lightly press the toppings into the chocolate so they will stay put.  Place the pan in the freezer (make sure it lays evenly) for 30 mins to an hour. Mine was ready and set after 30 mins. Then take out of the freezer and use your clean hands to break apart the hardened bark into whatever size pieces you desire, the more uneven the better it looks. I then packaged mine up in cute little treat bags and tied them with pink ribbons. I am sure my girlfriends will love this whimsical treat and if you have children, the topping possibilities and colors are endless and will provide a fun rainy day edible project that they will love to do and eat!

Unicorn Hot Chocolate

Ever since I was a little girl I have always loved everything pretty, pink, and magical. So it was only natural that after reading about a little cafe in Anaheim that served Unicorn Hot Chocolate, I try it for myself.

I had just celebrated my birthday and I celebrate the entire week, so I decided to end the week of festivities by driving from LA to Anaheim and try the drink that has taken Instagram by storm. I waited 2 hours in line at the Creme & Sugar cafe and purchased the secret menu items, the Unicorn Hot Chocolate, Unicorn Bark, and Unicorn Cake. I was so excited when I finally had them in my hot little hands because the colors were so vibrant and fun. The pink colored white hot chocolate was piled high with whipped cream, sprinkles, and multicolored marshmallows. The beautiful bark was covered with Lucky Charms, rainbows, sprinkles, and marshmallows, and the pretty pastel layered cake looked so fluffy and moist.

Now this is the hard part…..

I was severely disappointed. The flavor of the white hot chocolate was barely there and the cake was flavorless as well. The only redeeming item was the bark as it was super sweet and the cereal added a nice texture with each bite. That being said, I would not drive an hour and wait another two to partake in these secret menu items again for myself. I would however, bring my friends children to indulge in these treats as I think they would absolutely go bonkers over them and truly appreciate the whimsical nature of all three items. I was completely impressed with the presentation and the anticipation of trying the treats conjured up magical feelings and excitement that brought me back to my childhood, so for that I am delighted.

Feeling Knotty

I recently purchased a little black dress by NBD from an online clothing boutique called Revolve. It is the “Tie Me Down” dress. The dress is perfect because it is sexy and cute at the same time and has little tie details.

I had dinner plans to go to a hip sushi restaurant here in LA called Katsuya, so I decided to debut my new LBD. I had also been coveting the topknot hairstyle all the celebs have been wearing, so I decided to take a stab at doing it myself. For all of you that know me, you know I have fabulous hairstylist friends that work on celebrity’s manes, so I normally defer to them to style my hair in any trendy styles, but this time, I did it myself. I will do a post on tricks of the trade later with their expertise.

Back to the dress…

The fabric is the perfect weight, not too thick, not to thin, and there is a lining, so no need to worry about any visible panty lines or VPL. The tie details are so sweet and the cutouts provide just enough skin exposure to flaunt your stuff, but not in a vulgar way. The tie detail at the back and lower scoop back are perfect for when you need to hit the ladies room and your man watches you walk away. There is also a slit at the front left of the dress, but the mid calf length keeps it from being over exposed. I felt flirty and fun in this dress and the best part is it was on sale!

You can purchase it at http://www.revolve.com for $63! It is by NBD 🙂

Twinkling Trinkets

I am such a girly girl and love all sparkly things. My latest obsession is dainty diamond jewelry and particularly in rose gold.

EF Collection makes beautiful pieces that will fabulously decorate your body, giving you the perfect pop of sparkle to compliment any outfit. I first found out about this brand from my friend, Michelle, because she was wearing a set of the diamond bar stud earrings and I commented on them. I love how the tones of gold are not harsh, but rather a lighter color that flatter every skin tone. I am currently gravitating more toward the gold or rose gold, but would wear any of them as I do not follow the rules of not mixing metals. Everything goes in my book.

The small bar earrings set with white or black diamonds or rubies are my favorite along with the small chevron style necklace. These styles are perfect for everyday as well as layering with other items you already own to create a bohemian look that glitters in the summer sun. The customizable name plate bracelets and necklaces are amazing as well because they have little diamond accents and can be for a boyfriend, husband, or your baby! I think initials or a secret code of letters would also be a great idea instead of completely spelling out a name, but either way it is so sweet.

You can purchase them at http://www.efcollection.com

Satisfying Little Snack

I love chips!! There, I said it. My name is Trisha, I live in Los Angeles and I eat carbs. Lol.

Many of my friends here in LA eat clean and I love them for it and sometimes wish I could be more like them. I on the other hand, eat plenty of things that usually garner a bit of teasing when I eat them. One example is sometimes I eat ice cream for dinner or I run to the store and get a small bag of Doritos as a snack. Well, I am always on the hunt for better options of the foods I love and I have found it in Late July Nacho Chipotle chips.

The flavor is all natural and the chips are gluten and GMO free. They are also lacto vegetarian and Kosher. I am always skeptical to try these alternate versions of my guilty pleasure, go-to favorites, but in this case, I was pleasantly surprised. The Nacho Chipotle flavor is super good and just a touch spicy. I am not one for spicy foods, so I am telling you, it is just the slightest spicy kick at the end of each bite that keeps this chip interesting. The flavor combo will definitely snap you out of your boring work day and put a little pep in your step.

The Late July brand is so great that they donate 10% of their profits to causes that benefit children and the planet. So take that all you LA carb haters! I am actually doing good for humanity while snacking on my chips.

I purchased mine at Pavillions for $3.79.

Not Your Daddy’s Camouflage

Growing up in Nebraska, I was surrounded by men that liked to hunt. My dad was no exception. He was in the Air Force and on weekends, liked to hunt with his buddies. Whenever he left the house, he was fully outfitted in camouflage gear to blend in with nature’s surroundings.

Naturally, I was the most girly girl around, the total opposite of wanting to hunt or be decked out in camo. My how the times have changed and while I am still as girly as can be, I am loving anything in a camouflage print. I recently got a pair of jogger style sweatpants from Splendid called the Woodbury Camo Pant. It is the perfect combination of muted colors including a sage green and light grey mix. The fabric is cotton and is so incredibly soft and comfortable, I think I may live in these for a while. The best part is they can be dressed up or down. I know it is hard for many of you to consider sweatpants as an outfit to wear outside of the house unless you are ill, but seriously, don’t knock it until you try it.

I love to lounge on my couch in cute sweats, have a girls’ night in, or cozy date night, but another great way to wear them is with a basic white or grey t-shirt and a cute heel. I prefer a stacked heel over a stiletto, but play with it and wear what works for you. Make sure to pull the cuff on the pant up a little on your calf to create a dressier look. Toss on a leather or denim jacket and your look is “out on the town” ready.

The Woodbury Camo Pants retail for $128 at http://www.splendid.com and I paired them with the  U-Neck Scoop T-shirt ($48) and Jayla heels in Nude ($158) also both from Splendid.

Happy Shopping and comment below on how you style your favorite camouflage looks.

Banana Creme Protein Dream

My dear friend Jen had jaw surgery recently and her mouth is currently wired shut. I wanted to support her in her recovery, so I put together a care package for her with particle free beverages that were in appealing flavors for her to try.

I was at Whole Foods and didn’t know which protein shakes I wanted to purchase, so I started with the flavors that sounded the most delicious and of foods my friend may miss eating. Well, Jen is from the South and loves Southern Banana Pudding, and actually makes a wonderful one herself! So when I saw there was a banana creme flavored protein shake I knew that was the one I wanted to get her.

The brand is Svelte and it is an organic, plant based protein shake. This appealed to me because often times pre made protein shakes can taste a little like chemicals or really fake flavor wise. I picked up one for myself too because I am always on the hunt for a great snack or breakfast on the go. This shake is gluten-free and packed with 11 grams of protein and 20 percent of your daily recommended fiber and only 180 calories!

I chilled mine in the fridge because I prefer my shakes cold. I tried it today and OH-MY-GOODNESS (and I do mean goodness) this shake  is amazing. The banana flavor is mild and oh so very creamy. The shake is the perfect consistency and really was so satisfying. I felt like I was indulging in a healthy version of Southern Banana Pudding! I am obsessed and know Jen will be too. It is so gratifying to finally find a pre made shake that honestly tastes like the description!

I purchased mine at Whole Foods for $2.79 per shake, but they do come in 4 packs which will save a bit of money. They come in other flavors, Chocolate, French Vanilla, Cappuccino, and Spiced Chai.
